Your Instructor
Hello all! My name is Magnum Dampier, and I am honored to have the privilege of guiding you through data science and advanced R techniques. I would like to take a minute and give you a little bit of background about me, and how I became hooked on R. My love for R began out of complete necessity, when other languages and methods just wouldn’t work for the type of outcome I was needing.
Through the years of challenging work (mainly on the part of others), R has become a top contender for data science types alike, myself included. I spent over 10 years in a fortune 300 company, dealing with information systems, pricing, and inventory control. I’ve sat on the board of a point of sale development company, volunteer as a computer science teacher locally (teaching Python and Java, I will convince them to go to R soon enough!), and currently serve as a Director of Information Systems in the insurance industry.
I attended Harvard Extension School for data science, and am truly a lifelong learner of all things techy. I have a fantastically supportive wife, and 2 kids that have made me balder and fatter than I would like to admit. In my spare time, I enjoy being a sub-sub-par guitar player, chasing my kids around, and learning more technical skills. I look forward to serving all of you, and hope you get the R bug just like I did!
